Current Responsibility

Kate Fitch is a principal and healthcare management consultant in the New York office of Milliman. She joined the firm in 1999.

Kate developed and manages the health outcomes research practice in the New York office. She consults to pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, healthcare industry trade organizations, and disease and medical management vendors with a focus on quantifying and communicating the financial value of products and services. Many of the projects involve combining epidemiological data, clinical trial outcomes, payer claim data, and benefit design to produce metrics for actuarial modeling. Kate also consults to provider groups, evaluating and engaging in population risk contracts (ACOs, MSSPs, IDNs, etc.), including assistance with contract evaluation and financial feasibility modeling based on benchmarking population claim cost experience. She is also working with hospitals and physician groups on bundled payment strategy, including leading the data analytics for over 100 hospitals enrolled in the Medicare Bundled Payment for Care Improvement program.

Prior to joining Milliman, Kate worked for a case-management company, where she developed the case manager training and education program. She was previously an instructor in the nursing program at Columbia University School of Nursing. Prior to that, she was a research assistant at Memorial Sloane Kettering, where she was involved in nursing research studies. She also worked as a research assistant in pharmaceutical research studies at Roosevelt Hospital. Kate’s clinical background includes extensive experience as a registered nurse in emergency, adult inpatient, and ambulatory care units.

Presentations and Publications

In addition to being a frequent speaker at industry events, Kate is author or coauthor of numerous publicly available white papers and peer review journal publications focused on research into health cost outcomes. Topics include diabetes, COPD, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, hepatitis C, oncology, hypertension, contraception, obesity, and major depressive disorder.
