Experience

Mike has more than 30 years' experience in employee health and group benefits consulting. He has recently worked with large national firms to formulate a long-term plan to navigate the impact of healthcare reform, using tactics including private exchanges or full-replacement high-deductible health plans (HDHPs). He also helps clients negotiate and create benefit offerings with accountable care organizations. Other experience includes:

  • Meeting with senior executives to help explain alternative benefit strategies
  • Representing major employers in an effort to increase price transparency to assist in employee engagement and delivery system improvement
  • Creating financial incentives for wellness programs (outcome is typically 80%+ participation)
  • Establishing stabilization reserve criteria that guide plan design decisions for a board made up of management and labor (outcome is that reserve levels have increased to higher levels and cost trends have plummeted)
  • Assisting labor negotiations that place a cap on future employer costs (outcome created change in union perspective on plan design)
  • Leading Milliman's annual request for information (RFI) process to obtain comprehensive data about private healthcare exchanges
  • Helping clients choose vendors (including private exchange providers) through RFP processes
