The Milliman Medical Index reports the total annual medical spending for a typical U.S. family of four covered by an employer-sponsored preferred provider organization health plan. For 2010, the total medical costs for both employees and the employers that sponsor their health plans continued to increase, with the average family of four paying 7.8% more for healthcare. This year’s report also addresses several elements of the new healthcare reform legislation that are likely to affect the annual rate of health cost increases in the future.
