SFAS 158: changes in employers' accounting for pensions

As early as the end of 2006, employers who sponsor defined benefit pension plans or other postretirement benefits will be required to reflect the funded status of those plans directly on the company's balance sheet. How might the new accounting principles affect the financial status of employers, and what steps should employers be making to prepare for the new rules?
