Job description

The Benefits Analyst I works in a team environment and is responsible for all operational tasks associated with servicing qualified and non-qualified defined benefit pension plans in compliance with plan provisions and administrative policies. Analyst will use company-developed software to maintain pension data and calculate benefits. Analyst will be expected to learn technical and legal requirements in the administration of plans, and will also be expected to pursue continued education by taking and passing ASPPA examinations.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret plan rules to ensure compliance with plan document
  • Research participant records for internal and external information requests
  • Process and review manual calculations and ensure accuracy of calculations
  • Prepare and review written communications for participant inquiries
  • Maintain effective relationships with client contacts
  • Assist with system testing for plan modifications
  • Provide support for special projects and other tasks as needed
  • Ensure final work products are of high quality & accuracy and are timely
  • Monitor progress of daily tasks
  • Provide back-up call center support by answering participant phone calls
  • Take an active role in pursuing continued education

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on customer service
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft® Word and Excel; experience with Microsoft Access a plus
  • Willing to pursue exams with ASPPA (progress toward or current designation is a plus)
  • Basic project management skills
  • Ability to self-motivate and meet goals
  • Ability to solve problems efficiently while being innovative and creative

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (a degree in Mathematics, Statistics or other analytical field will be considered a plus)
