Current responsibility

Jeff is an actuary and leads the Non-Life (Property and Casualty) practice in the Munich office of Milliman. He rejoined the firm in 2001.
 

Experience

Jeff's area of expertise is international property and casualty insurance, particularly reserving, reinsurance analysis, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity, advanced pricing techniques, and dynamic financial modeling. Jeff has extensive experience in matters related to both personal and commercial lines of business in the United States, United Kingdom, and continental Europe. His experience includes:

  • Leading the review of reserves of various European (re)insurers as part of due diligence assignments, both in established and emerging markets
  • Leading dynamic financial modeling projects both in the United States and Europe
  • Leading teams reviewing reserves for a major division of a global primary insurer and two major divisions of a global reinsurer
  • Developing a framework to evaluate and monitor various LRARP and large-deductible U.S. workers' compensation programs
  • Contributing to Milliman internal Solvency II working party as author and presenter

Jeff is involved in committee work within Milliman. He is on the global Casualty Steering Committee (CSC) and an active member of the Solvency II workgroup.

Jeff began his career with the Denver office of Milliman in 1993, where he worked in the Property and Casualty practice until 1997 and again from 2001 until 2005.

Prior to joining Milliman, Jeff worked for The Cologne Re in Cologne, Germany, where he was responsible for reserving multiple lines of assumed European business, including:

  • International casualty facultative
  • Proportional and nonproportional motor liability
  • Proportional and nonproportional general liability
  • Proportional and nonproportional credit and bond

Further, he was the primary reserving actuary responsible for monitoring the U.S. and U.K. subsidiaries and was a leading member of a special work group that tested the adequacy of the minimum profit margin used for motor excess of loss business across Europe.

Jeff is a native speaker of English, but also speaks German. He has passed the ZMP and is currently preparing for ZOP.

Jeff is involved in committee work of the Casualty Actuarial Society. He is also currently chairman of the International Member Services Committee and an active member of the Examination Committee.
