Current responsibility

Thomas is a principal and senior consultant in Milliman’s Zürich office and manages Milliman's Swiss non-life practice.
 

Experience

Thomas has more than 15 years working experience as a non-life actuary for global reinsurance and insurance companies and consultancy. He specializes in pricing and reserving professional indemnity, liability and mortgage portfolios, and reviewing underwriting and risk management processes. He has very good knowledge of the Solvency II and Swiss Solvency Test (SST) framework, has spoken on international conferences on Solvency II and worked on several Solvency II and SST projects inter alia reviewing internal models.

Thomas was an Eastern European investment manager for a private equity advisor and developed and managed its global investment monitoring tool. He served as an FSA-approved board member of the Medical Defense Union Service Ltd from 2001 to 2005, and was heading Converium's non-traditional pricing team. He has in-depth experience in structuring and pricing large insurance transactions and optimizing reinsurance programs. As head of the actuarial team of Zurich's reinsurance department, he was responsible for the world-wide natural catastrophe model, pricing, reserving and optimizing internal and external reinsurance structures, and was member of several group committees, including the RBC committee.

Thomas has published several mathematical research papers and articles on insurance topics. He has spoken at international and local conferences on mathematical and insurance-related topics.
