Experience
Catherine has more than 20 years of experience as a consultant and actuary, with particular experience in the design, pricing, and underwriting of health and welfare benefits.
She spent the first 10 years of her career in the actuarial consulting field working with employers, providers, and health plans in the areas of plan design, pricing, liability estimation, experience analysis, and actuarial projections.
Catherine then worked for eight years as a director of small-group actuarial services for a national publicly traded health insurance corporation. While there, she worked closely with underwriting, sales, product development, and market leadership in the small-group division to ensure proper balance between growth and profitability and to create understanding regarding risk management and financial implications associated with various small-group opportunities.
Catherine was responsible for the monthly multifunctional process used to make pricing and underwriting decisions, as well as for maintaining segment-level financial projections, the small-group manual rate formula, the small-group renewal rating process, and the predictive modeling process. Additionally, she was actively involved in the product design process, educating leadership on the effect of design changes, pricing new products, and monitoring the effectiveness of product pricing through experience and competitor studies.
Since returning to Milliman, Catherine has assisted employer clients with benefit strategy, plan design, pricing, post-retirement medical valuations, and liability estimation. She has also assisted health plan clients with provider contracting analysis, Medicaid cost and bid development, and Medicare Part D payment reconciliations.Education
