Axel has more than 30 years experience in the German health insurance industry. He started his career in 1976 at uniVersa Insurance Group in Nuremberg, Germany and by 1995 had become CEO. Over the course of his career, he held the role of Chief Actuary, Director of the Actuary Department, and member of the executive board.

As an actuary, Axel has experience with health, life and casualty insurance company issues. His expertise includes:

• Product design
• Product development and calculation
• Product and portfolio analysis
• Reserving, and reserve valuation
• Market analysis and marketing

As Chairman of the Greek company INTERASCO S.A. he was responsible for the Greek branch of uniVersa Allgemeine between 1997 and 2006.

Axel was member of the Steering Committee of the Association of Private Health Insurers and member of several supervisory boards and advisory councils. Today he is member of the executive council of DAV responsible for all issues pertaining to the actuarial profession.
