Jim is currently the Appointed Actuary for two life insurers and is the PRSA actuary for one insurer. His experience covers Solvency II, financial reporting (statutory valuations, embedded values, IFRS), life assurance product development, and strategic consulting work, e.g., establishment of new life companies, development of market entry strategies, review of existing businesses, portfolio transfers, advising industry on strategic issues, and preparing for Solvency II.

Jim has been involved in various industry and professional working parties and has presented on a wide range of topics, including Solvency II, life assurance profitability, disclosure, PRSAs, variable annuities, the "Insurance Gender Directive," and regulatory developments. He is a member of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland's Council and is a member of the Society's Solvency II Committee. He is a former chair of the Society's International Committee. He is also the Irish representative on the Insurance Committee of the Groupe Consultatif Actuarieel Europeen.
