Current responsibility

John is a principal and consulting actuary with the Chicago office of Milliman. He joined the firm in 1994.
 

Experience

John's primary area of expertise is valuing life insurance companies or blocks of business for use in mergers and acquisitions, securitizations or other strategic alternatives. His work includes extensive experience in statutory and U.S. GAAP accounting, particularly related to mergers and acquisitions or securitization transactions. He has broad international experience as well, including considerable work in Korea, Japan, and the United States, as well as working with large multi-national Canadian and European companies.

John has extensive knowledge in actuarial appraisals, embedded values, stochastic projections, and cash flow testing. He is a lead actuary within Milliman at managing these types of projects, which require a wide range of knowledge in life insurance products, guarantee benefits, and asset/liability management.

John also has been very active with principles-based accounting (PBA), including extensive research in how to measure the adequacy of margins in the PBA reserves under a cost of capital approach.
