About this chat: It’s unusual for an epidemic and a pandemic to occur simultaneously. However, that is what is now happening in the United States where the opioid epidemic is being exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the U.S, there may have been as many as 3.8 million Americans with opioid use disorder (OUD) in 2018, with many more people on the verge of being recognized as having the disorder. COVID-19 has affected the delivery of care and utilization for these patients.

In this Twitter chat, Milliman’s Stoddard Davenport, Katie Matthews, and Joseph Boschert will discuss the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the opioid epidemic, OUD patients, and the U.S. healthcare system in general.
