Education

  • Samie graduated summa cum laude with departmental honors from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with majors in Finance and Economics. She has also completed a certification in International Business and Economics at the University of Copenhagen. Samie has also served as a sponsor for students doing research related to health, LAD, absence, and productivity at the University of Connecticut’s Department of Insurance Studies.
  • Samie currently holds a producer’s license in health and life insurance products in all fifty states, as well as the District of Columbia.

Current Responsibility

Samie is a health and welfare consultant and a nationally recognized expert in life, absence, and disability (LAD) projects, including FML, ADAAA, time off - state mandated sick & family leave, vacation, PTO, pregnancy disability and parental leave. She joined the Portland, Maine, office of Milliman in 2018.

Experience

As an end-to-end LAD consultant, Samie partners with employers on financial analyses, program implementation, claim audits, design strategy, and vendor management. More specifically, she leads the following types of projects:

  • Financial, including underwriting, predictive modeling, relative values, funding analysis, return on investment analysis, leave management data analytics, direct and indirect costs of absence
  • Administrative, including contracts, performance guarantees, leave of absence policies, program reviews, development of custom claim management models
  • Audits, including extensive on-site experience in performing pre- and post-implementation and on-going claim audit work (process/clinical operational assessments and claim file reviews). While most work has focused on absence and disability management, Samie has developed an industry-leading approach to life and accident audits.
  • Design strategy, including benchmarking, M&A harmonization, integrated health and LAD design, ADAAA strategy, stay at work/return to work strategy, absence management strategy, and integrated group and IDI design
  • Vendor management, including procurements, renewals, negotiations, implementation, and issue resolution

During the past 14 years, Samie has partnered with hundreds of Fortune 500 companies in a consulting capacity and has been directly involved in not only the pricing, but design and strategy of more than 3,500 LAD programs in an underwriting capacity. She has supported a wide variety of employers, including significant experience in healthcare, retail, media, high tech, pharma and has regularly supported manufacturing, petroleum, services, transportation, communications, utilities, and financial services employers.

Prior to her current role, she spent six years in various leadership positions within Mercer’s national LAD specialty practice. Previously, she built and led the legacy Hewitt national LAD practice for more than four years. Before becoming a consultant, Samie held LAD senior underwriting positions at Aetna and Liberty Mutual.
