ICD-10: Industry perceptions and readiness

The federally mandated ICD-10 conversion, with its looming implementation deadline of October 1, 2013, will likely exceed both HIPAA and Y2K in terms of cost and risk. Yet, the results of a recent Milliman study suggest that many healthcare organizations do not appear to have taken significant steps to prepare for implementation and do not view ICD-10 as offering opportunities to gain competitive advantages.
