Laird Zacheis
Laird Zacheis is a principal and consulting actuary with the Chicago office of Milliman. He joined the firm in 1991.
Experience
Laird specializes in mergers and acquisitions involving life insurance companies. He has been a leading advisor on many of the most significant U.S. transactions since the early 1990s. Over the course of his career, he has supported buyers and sellers on more than 100 transactions with an aggregate value exceeding $150 billion. His experience spans a wide range of deal structures, including reinsurance-based transactions, reserve-financing captive solutions, offshore structures, and complex cross-border acquisitions. He is frequently engaged to advise on transaction design, valuation, capital optimization, and the integration of reinsurance solutions into broader M&A strategies.
Beyond his extensive M&A work, Laird provides consulting services across financial planning, capital management, and U.S. GAAP matters—including Purchase GAAP, post-acquisition accounting, and the evaluation of emerging accounting standards. He regularly advises executive teams on strategic planning, helping organizations assess long-term business direction, evaluate capital deployment options, and navigate evolving regulatory and market environments.
Laird's advisory work often extends into enterprise-level decision support, including the assessment of risk-transfer structures, optimization of capital frameworks, and evaluation of alternative financing solutions. His deep understanding of both the technical and strategic dimensions of the life insurance industry enables him to guide clients through complex transactions, regulatory considerations, and long-term financial planning with clarity and precision.
