Karl Bernhardt

Karl’s experience is primarily in the health insurance field in the South African market and other regions of Africa. Prior to joining Milliman, he was involved in the development and implementation of provider reports and provider reimbursement models for Discovery Health, South Africa.

His expertise includes claims analytics, claims reporting, risk management intervention pricing, and predictive modelling. He has assisted the clinical risk function in the design and implementation of risk management processes for Discovery Health, South Africa.

He has experience applying advanced risk adjustment methodologies, including statistical modelling and clinical twin studies, to accurately analyse trends in healthcare claims data. He has in­-depth knowledge of the health insurance clinical coding environment, including the use of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs), International Classification of Diseases (ICDs), and Current Procedural Terminology (CPTs).
