Analysing 2025 Solvency and Financial Condition Reports (SFCRs) of life insurers in Ireland

This report analyses solvency and financial condition reports (SFCRs) for year-end 2025 for Irish life insurers. Our analysis highlights key trends in premiums, solvency and international exposure.

Key findings:

  • Gross premiums written increased to €51.2 billion for year-end 2025, a 6.8% increase from €48.1 billion in 2024.
  • There was a material increase in international gross written premiums in 2025 compared with 2024, and a small decrease in domestic gross written premiums.
  • Approximately 45% of premiums were written for the Irish market, and 55% were for international business.
  • Balance sheet assets reached €411.7 billion by the end of 2025, up from €377.5 billion the year prior, representing a 9% increase.
  • The aggregate solvency ratio rose slightly, to 168% by year-end 2025, from 161% in 2024.
  • There continues to be limited use of internal models and moderate use of the volatility adjustment.
