Inflation has been stubbornly high throughout 2022, a cause of concern in the medical professional liability (MPL) insurance industry, which is comprised of insurance carriers, captive insurance companies, and reinsurers. Yet inflationary figures include elements of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), such as consumer goods, energy, and a variety of other items that might cause an increase in MPL severity.
