In 2024, there were more than 27,000 kidney transplants in the United States. For this analysis, we examined the landscape, including kidney transplant admission payment under the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) and hospital internal resource costs for Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) beneficiaries in fiscal-year 2024. We summarized our findings, commissioned by Sanofi U.S., in the form of a detailed infographic, organized as follows:
- The landscape of kidney transplants in the United States
- Characteristics of kidney transplant admissions in Medicare
- Hospital internal resource costs of kidney transplant admissions in Medicare FFS
- IPPS rate setting
- Hospital payment for kidney transplant admissions under Medicare FFS
- Hospital and admission characteristics by kidney transplant volume
