Deana Bell

Deana is a health insurance consultant and her experience includes actuarial opinions, pricing, rating, reserving, medical underwriting, benchmarking, and risk adjustment projects. Deana works primarily with group health care programs, including Medicare and Medicaid plans, commercial insurance, Veterans Health Administration, provider groups, and employer groups.

Examples of Deana’s experience and capabilities:

• As Appointed Actuary, certifying the actuarial liabilities for health plans and extensive support for other appointed actuaries
• Reviewing and implementing risk adjustment and other predictive modeling
• Conducting bid development and support for Medicare Advantage for special needs plans and general enrollment plans
• Estimating liabilities for claims incurred but not paid
• Modeling variables to test their impact on current and projected healthcare costs using actuarial techniques
• Conducting feasibility studies and strategy consulting for new entrants and expansions
• Pricing for pharmacy products, specifically Medicare Part D, and analyzing formularies

Deana volunteers with the Society of Actuaries Health Section Council in support of healthcare continuing education and research. She was the chair of the 2020 SOA Health Meeting.
